FUNDRAISING:
Offering- Every Wednesday night, we will be taking an offering and encourage all youth to participate. The money given will go toward the sponsorship of the youth’s Compassion child, Mery, and future youth events.
Souper Bowl Sundaywill be on Sunday, February 5th. We encourage all youth to wear a sports shirt or jersey to church and we will have large soup bowls to collect the donated canned goods.
Movie Night – COMPASSION CHILD Fundraiser- We have not set a date or time for this yet, but would like to offer dinner and a movie for the congregation and community. This will be a family friendly movie, but child care will be offered by the teens. Donations collected this night will go towards supporting the COMPASSION CHILD we adopted last year while at REVOLUTION. Our child’s name is Mery, she is 13 years old and lives with her family in Ecuador.
ACTIVITIES:
Community Youth Groupwill be Sunday, January 22nd at Pond Branch UMC. We will relay additional information as it becomes available.
Winter Jamis March 9, 2012. This is a Christian concert with bands such as Skillet, Sanctus Real, New Song and Building 429, just to name a few as well as worship leader. Tickets are $10 and you pay at the door. EVERYONE is welcome to attend, no age limits. We’d love to have you join us and can always use extra drivers/chaperons for this event. We will need to leave the church around 4:00 on that Friday afternoon, so we can get in line for the show. Everyone will need to bring extra money for food and/or cds.
Revolutionis coming up, March 16 – 18, 2012. This will be at the Colonial Center this year and we plan on staying overnight, downtown on Friday and Saturday night. We estimate the cost to be approximately $100 (We are still trying to locate the best deal for hotel rooms). We request that everyone have their non-refundable deposit of $50.00 to Melissa by Sunday, January 29th. In the past we have allowed late comers; however, we need to know a definite number by January 29th in order to plan properly. The remainder of the money will be due on Sunday, February 26th. Each youth will also need to bring money for meals (Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast and lunch and Sunday breakfast and lunch). Scott and Melissa will purchase pizza Saturday night.
FOURTH QUARTER 2012:
In September, we had our Journey Youth Rally and had nearly 80 youth in attendance. Youth groups from Gilbert UMC, Pelion UMC and Pond Branch UMC were there, as well as other visitors. We met with the leaders of these youth groups that day and again a few weeks later and are planning to have other community youth group activities coming up in 2012.
In October, the youth went to the fair, participated in a 30 Hour Famine and visited Epworth Children’s Home. This year the youth stayed in the Family Ministries building for the 30 Hour Famine and made polar fleece blankets to give to the Hearts & Hands Ministry, for youth at Palmetto Richland Medical Center.
November and December have rushed by for us as well as it did for many of you, with Thanksgiving and Christmas preparations. However, we have had some interesting discussion on the Wednesday Night Bible Study, “Soul Surfer”, we had a great group turn out on a Saturday morning to help “freshen-up” the youth room with paint, we enjoyed a discussion to help us represent the youth at the PPRC open floor night and we also celebrated Christmas with some food and games. Much fun was had, by all!
OTHER INFO:
We will not have youth group on the following dates:
